US Ambassador to the United Nations Linda Thomas Greenfield said Friday that there should be no doubt that Russia is looking forward to it. dismantling ukraine “And solve it from the entire world map.”
Speaking to the UN Security Council, the ambassador said the US has noticed indications that Russia is preparing to try to annex all of Ukraine’s eastern regions of Donetsk and Luhansk, as well as the Kherson and southern Zaporizhia regions.
She said Moscow’s attempt to do so could include the installation of “illegitimate proxy officials in Russian-controlled areas, with the aim of holding mock referendums or decree to join Russia.”
Thomas Greenfield said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov “even stated that this is Russia’s war objective.”
On Sunday, Lavrov said at an Arab summit in Cairo that Moscow’s overall mission in Ukraine is to liberate its people from its “unacceptable regime.”
“We will certainly help the Ukrainian people to get rid of the regime, which is completely anti-people and anti-historic,” Lavrov said, apparently noting that Russia’s goals in the war exceed those of Ukraine. Donbass industrial zone in the eastwhich consists of Donetsk and Luhansk.
“The de-Nazification and disarmament of Ukraine will be fully implemented,” Russian Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Dmitry Polyansky told the Security Council on Friday.
“There should be no threat from this point to the Donbass, nor to Russia, nor to the liberated Ukrainian lands where for the first time in many years people can finally feel that they can live the way they want,” he said. .
Polyansky also issued a warning to Western countries that supply Ukraine with long-range artillery and MLRS missiles, saying they are shifting the “temporary security line” further west.
“In doing so, we further clarify the goals and objectives of our special military operation,” he said.
Thomas Greenfield at the meeting also highlighted evidence of an increase in atrocities caused by the Russian War.
This includes the reported bombings of schools and hospitals, the “murder of aid workers and journalists, the targeting of civilians trying to flee, and the brutal execution-style killing of those going about their daily business in Bucha, a suburb of Kyiv,” she said.
The ambassador said there is evidence of that Russian forces “They have interrogated, forcibly detained and deported an estimated hundreds of thousands of Ukrainian citizens, including children – tearing them from their homes and sending them to remote areas in the east.”
Nearly two million Ukrainian refugees have been transferred to Russia, according to Ukrainian and Russian officials. Ukraine claims that the refugees were forced to move into enemy territory, which is considered a war crime. But Russia regards the trips as humanitarian evacuations of war victims who appreciate a new place they call home.
“The United Nations has information that officials from the Russian presidential administration are overseeing and coordinating the nomination processes,” Thomas Greenfield told the council.
Nevertheless, Polyansky said, Ukrainians “choose the country they trust.”
He claimed that the heavy artillery bombardment supplied by Ukraine would “extend to Europe” due to “the burgeoning corruption between the political and military leadership of Ukraine”.
Polyansky said Western weapons “prolong the suffering and increase the suffering of the Ukrainian people.”
He told the Western ambassadors, “The goals of our special military operation will be achieved in both cases, whatever fuel you pour into the fire in the form of weapons.”
