Ag Tech startup Verility has closed a $3.5 million Series A funding round to further develop its livestock fertility analysis platform.

Indianapolis – Virility CompanyLed by co-founder and CEO Liann Hart, it closed $3.5 million in Series A funding. The tour was led by Mountain Group Partners Nashville, Tennessee, and includes a previous investment from Bordeaux foundry.

Verility has created a global platform called Fertile-EyezTM which provides fertility analysis products that enable livestock producers and breeders to accelerate reproductive performance. Provides accurate, simple and cost-effective analysis for predicting ovulation stage and sperm quality at the point of care. The company licensed the intellectual property from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, a Harvard Medical School not-for-profit educational institution, where it was originally created and validated in humans.

Hart said improving sperm analysis and improving ovulation detection for breeding animals are two of the most important ways to meet the urgent need for more edible meat protein. She said the pregnancy rate was known to be closely related to product profitability and food sustainability.

“Series A funding will allow us to develop our product for pig producers and breeders in a large segment of production,” she said. “The investment will allow us to get to the point of preparing for commercialization, which we anticipate in late 2023. It is very exciting to have the ability to bring automated mobile breeding technologies into a sector of the animal health industry that doesn’t usually see a lot of innovation.”

“We are very pleased that more investment is finding its way into animal health innovations to bring about greater efficiency in animal production. We have a real opportunity to make a significant improvement in animal fertility, which is an area that needs more innovation,” said Brian Cobb, Verility’s chief financial officer.

Rob Rednor, managing director at Mountain Group Partners, said Verility complements the group’s investment portfolio. Its investment in Verility’s Series A funding round is in line with the group’s overall objectives.

“The Mountain Group Partners are pleased to offer our animal health expertise to help Verility develop Fertile-Eyez Technology to allow pig producers to be more productive by improving reproductive performance.” Producers are facing challenges from rising input costs and labor shortages exacerbated by the pandemic. They need an innovation like Fertile-Eyez to help them meet the important task of producing animal protein in a sustainable way. “

Hadi Shafiei, a faculty member in the Department of Engineering in Medicine and the Department of Nephrology in Medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School, said AI aides will play an important role in the path toward transforming conventional agriculture into precision agriculture.

“The smartphone-based, AI-assisted platform technology created by my lab has broad applications in the accuracy of animal health and breeding,” he said. “This Series A funding will help us commercialize our first AI-enabled product for accurate, affordable, and real-time prediction of ovulation in pigs.”

the truth Received $100,000 as one of two Purdue Ag-Celerator winnersThe company is a strong example of startups bringing Purdue-backed innovations to market, said Riley Gibb, director of business development at Purdue Foundry.

“Leanne Hart is one of the many high-quality entrepreneurs bringing Purdue-backed startups to market,” he said. “Verility and other companies are already making an impact in plant and animal sciences.”

Futurology Life chose Verility as one of the top agricultural technology companies in Indiana earlier in 2022. Hart recently participated in the Purdue Foundry’s Women in Entrepreneurship panel and the AgriNovus Indiana quadruple event for bioscience entrepreneurs.
